HoloLens VS Oculus Rift

With the recent announcement from Microsoft, showing off their HoloLens, a new level of innovation is about to happen again. Just only a few years ago, AR (Augmented Reality) came into the scene, everyone was so excited about it. Then there was these 3D TV which came in and the first 3DS came out with AR Technology. Soon after a some guys started a kickstarter campaign to come out with cheap and fantastic VR (Virtual Reality) which it known it as Oculus Rift.

Technology Differences
Oculus Rift uses VR technology and HoloLens uses AR technology. As we know VR uses some kinda of projection that what you see is based from what it project out which makes you feel like you are in another world. AR works differently as work out additionally by capturing the POV (point of view) from the wearer direction and project virtual objects on their glass. So the wearer can see both the real world and the virtual world overlay on its glass.

So how does HoloLens different from the rest of the players?
Well as far as I know, 3DS is on its 2nd generation of AR and its picking up better. From there I have not seen any device (besides camera phone) that utilize as wearable device. Google glass have failed quite badly which I think it should because the technology is just not powerful enough to utilized its capability and people are not comfortable seeing them wearing outside. Unlike HoloLens, its more for home and commercial use for serious work rather than for fashion or gimmick.

How does it compare to Oculus Rift?
Though HoloLens looks far more superior than Oculus Rift but I think there are still places where it is better than HoloLens. Here are my thoughts on how it will be used.

• Oculus Rift runs wires and HoloLens is not. Though Oculus Rift design is still on prototype but this is what I know for this moment.
• Oculus Rift give a better perspective view how the screen would be like and can be projected to watch anything from any angles and positions. HoloLens require a specific area or view to watch something (because its transparent) but I am not sure can it work it out to be totally non-transparent at this point of time.
• HoloLens might need a projector screen which you need to watch something if color is important. Oculus Rift does not as the whole glass is a projector.
• HoloLens does not require additional device to run. That means you can run any future apps that is developed for this. Oculus Rift needs a device as its just a projection device.
• HoloLens has depth of view and hand gesture technology which makes it a nice package to attract more people. Oculus? well, its simply just a projector right on your face.

My Final Thoughts
Depending how far HoloLens goes, if its able to serve me as a projector like what Oculus Rift can do, I will get this! I am still curious how 3D audio will play out on this. Is audio device will be included or its comes separately? If not, I have yet to think of why I should get it.

Future Tech Wearable Device. Who will win?

Microsoft has released the their health fitness device which look more kinda like a watch. I am not gonna say anything, you can compare and see which one looks impressive.

I would say I would prefer the sporty look of the microsoft band follow by the casual look of the moto 360. so which is your preferred choice?

You are not bending right.

With the iphone 6 just launched, there are numerous complains about the build quality of this phone.
Some even mention that apple brag about build quality has gone down the drain.


 

Unbox Therapy just post up the videos regarding about the bend-ability comparing between iphone and galaxy note 3. Both are about the same size so the variable testing should be close.

Though the test is not scientifically fair but it clearly shows the weakness of it no doubt. You are paying for the marketing not the quality just a reminder again.

About iphone for movie making

Wired posted this article about how iphone 6 will change the way people think about movie making.
I would say this is BS... Nokia has always the one leading in camera technology and the movie and sound recording at its best.

They have to play more catch up this time. Would I buy? Yes. but I buy to sell to those apple fans. In some countries you can buy with contract and sell for 2- 3 times of its retail price! yesh, those people are that desperate.

The problem with people understanding between Windows and Mac

How I Stopped Using The Mac After Leaving Apple

The article above, shows some of the typical issues from a person using a Mac and how he switched to PC. I wish that more of this articles will show up to tell those users that MAC are NOT perfect. Some may still disagree with me (I wish those people do really find out rather than listening to from others who have no detail knowledge of it). Its like over the year people are still debating about it and they feel confident that its the best. I have personally tried Mac for a while due to visiting some clients to fix their smart home problem and have experience the pain from a Window User.

Here are my findings with reasons.

Mac has virus and spyware
Yes and and I mean it. There have been articles popping out now and then mentioning about in terms of urgency to release a patch for Mac. The most recent one which is just weeks ago was mentioning about Bitcoin Trojan. In my findings, I found out that this part of irresponsible education is brought up by the sales people who have no detail knowledge about the product, which in term the user believes it and spread this information via word of mouth.

Mac are not quite affordable
While some may agree or disagree depending on their usage. Some may just need word processor some may need more. Frankly, Mac prices has been coming down a bit lately but in terms of specification on hardware comparisons, Windows still rules. Tell me how many hardware are there is compatible with Mac? My friend told me that even AntiVirus cost 3 times more than the Window version.

Mac offer lesser choice for software and hardware
Whatever most of the things you can find on Mac, Windows has it. I said most. While there are still some software do not offer on Windows but then, Windows have tons of similar product so you can picked your choice.

Mac offer lesser gaming experience
While more games are coming for Mac but then if you are talking about cutting edge games that are the latest generations. It will still be Windows because in developing games, Windows are the base environment to start working on. They would not have the time to do bug fixing for Mac until later date.

Mac must use devices that support Apple only in order to work flawlessly
This is true if you bought everything from Apple it will work flawless but then it also depends. I remember having a headache fixing my client iphotos sync to icloud. it does not get replicated for all the machines. I cannot really remember what i did to resolve the issue.

Mac offers intuitive interfaces & innovations.
Mac does really great job at marketing and making the interface more attractive than Windows but then alot of misinformation has been spread to those Mac users to think Apple are always the first to come out with innovative product. Every time when my friends explain how good is it, I will try to reason it but not too far as you know. Apple user have these weird strong ego...
